Case Study - Peter and Marie

Peter is a business analyst working for an IT company.  He is married to Marie and they have two girls aged 10 and 8.

Last year Peter was diagnosed with invasive cancer that was surgically removed.  He has had subsequent chemotherapy and is under careful monitoring in case of re occurrence.

At the time of the surgery Peter had to take 6 months off work.   His income protection paid a monthly benefit for five of those months meaning they could continue to feed the family and pay the bills.  His health insurance meant that he was able to seek immediate treatment in a private hospital.  It also paid for ongoing specialist consultations. In addition he had trauma insurance that paid a lump sum upon the diagnosis of invasive cancer.  This allowed for Marie to stay home over this period to look after Peter and it also allowed them to pay off some of their home loan relieving financial stress.

Peter also has substantial life cover.  This means that should he pass away, the home loan will be repaid in full and Marie will have an ongoing income enabling her to stay home and look after the children.  If Peter is diagnosed as terminal, his life cover will be paid out early meaning the family can spend that valuable time together maybe on holiday without financial pressure.
